What you'd do
The position is responsible for the maintenance and repair and repair of systems and alteration activities for all Robert F. Kennedy main Justice Building (RFK) operations. This position has the responsibility for overseeing the operation, maintenance, repair, preservation, alteration, furnishing, and equipment control of RFK. This position functions under the direction of the Deputy Assistant Director, JBS in FASS.
Major duties
The duties and responsibilities for a Facilities Operations Specialist, GS-1640-11/12 (FPL: GS-13), generally include, but are not limited to, the following: * Oversee the operation, maintenance, repair, preservation, alteration, furnishing, and equipment control. * Coordinate with staff on projects affecting building maintenance and construction. * Provide guidance to senior-level supervisors and building tenant organizations regarding scheduled building maintenance and/or construction project information. * Responsible for building and equipment preventative maintenance activities and programs. * Utilize inspection and measuring devices, such as moisture indicators; dial indicators; micrometers; torch wrenches; amp probes to ensure trueness of carpentry and other work. * Analyze and develop new repair and modification techniques, criteria, and information required for changes in programs, technological developments and events that cannot be predicted. The duties listed above are generally written for one grade level. What you need to qualify
To qualify for the position of Facilities Operations Specialist, at GS-1640-11/12, (FPL GS-13), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND/OR the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade. If you are a current Department of Justice employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. In addition to qualify for this position you must meet the qualifications and/or education substitution listed below: For GS-11: You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as inspecting buildings, and/or grounds to assess conditions; AND drafting written reports regarding building improvements, cost estimates and materials needed; OR Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree with Major Study- engineering, industrial arts, property management, or business administration which is related to the work of this position OR three full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in one or a combination of the following fields engineering, industrial arts, property management, or business administration which is related to the work of this position, or a closely related field. (NOTE: Transcripts must be provided) OR A combination of specialized experience as described but less than one year, and I have more than two years, but less than three years, of graduate education. I have computed the percentage of experience and education and they total at least 100%. (e.g., To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond two years by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.) (NOTE: Transcripts must be provided) For the GS-12: You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as managing maintenance programs; planning preventive maintenance and upgrades to building and utility systems; AND reviewing building systems, such as fire alarms, structural systems, for operational status and/or unexpected issues. There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-12 grade level. You MUST meet all qualification requirements, including time-in-grade, by the 07/21/2026 of this announcement.
