What you'd do
This is a Supervisory Management (Business Office Manager) position, and the primary purpose of the position is to advise the Assistant Chief, Health Administration Service, as well as other management concerning patient administration and legal eligibility issues concerning the operation of the section. Temporary Detail Not to exceed 120 days - may be extended up to a year.
Major duties
Incumbent is recognized as a fully functioning manager among Service and Section Chiefs in contributing to top management policy and decision- making processes of significant importance to the operation of various programs. The incumbent's managerial duties and responsibilities have a direct and substantial effect on the operation of Health Administration Service and throughout Tomah VA Medical Center. Major program responsibilities within the Section are summarized as follows: - Applicable VISTA Program Management - Enrollment/Comprehensive Eligibility for Health Care Benefits - Admission/Discharge/Transfers Ambulance and Beneficiary Travel - Death Details - Interfacility Transfer Coordination - OPT Clinic Administration (NEAR) - Compensation and Pension and other Special Program Examinations (Agent Orange; Ionizing Radiation; Persian Gulf, POW) - Registration (Means Test, Long Term Care Co-payment, Geographic Means Testing) - Fugitive Felon Program Coordinator - Environmental Health Coordinator - Patient Information Collection Management Coordinator - Veterans Health Information Card (VHIC) Coordinator Work Schedule: M-F, 8:00am -4:30 pm Compressed/Flexible: Not available Telework: Not available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. What you need to qualify
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/13/2026. GS 11 Specialized Experience: Do you possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level? Specialized experience is defined as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: being a subject matter expert in health administration VistA software packages; planning and oversight of implementing new software; providing training and assistance to users; ensuring data security by verifying only the appropriate staff members have access to data; troubleshooting for clinical and administrative staff; analyzing, testing, and evaluating new software packages; coordinating training and communication related to national software changes; serving as liaison between HAS and OI&T. OR GS-11 SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Have you successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR GS-11 COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Have you successfully completed an equivalent combination of experience and education as described above? Such education and experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
