What you'd do
About the Position: This position is located in (OB/GYN), Directorate for Surgical Services, of the local medical treatment facility. The primary purpose of the position is to provide nursing services to eligible beneficiaries at the Obstetrics/Gynecology (OB/GYN) clinic. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
Major duties
Implements, directs, and coordinates the nursing process in compliance with currently approved standards of nursing practice. Plans organizes, develops, and implements methods of providing quality nursing care. Maintains liaison with other health care professionals and community referral services. Coordinates health care needs by making appropriate referrals as indicated. Instructs patients and/or families in preparation for various tests, obtaining specimens, and initiates arrangements for follow-up care per order of the health care provider. Assigns duties and delegates patient care to other clinical nurses, licensed practical nurses, and military hospital corps personnel, as indicated, with consideration of the qualifications and capabilities of the individuals. Determines departmental staffing needs based on level of activity and available resources. Plans, implements, and monitors individually structured clinical orientation program for all new staff. Counsels staff concerning duties, responsibilities, and assignments. Initiates competency plan for new staff.
What you need to qualify
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Education/Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above). Professional nursing experience is experience that demonstrates the following competencies: performs nursing care, patient assessments, medication administration or monitoring, and specimen collection. OR Education: A master's degree in professional nursing. OR Defense Health Agency Nurse Experience Exemption: You are exempt from the one year specialized experience requirement if you were previously employed as a Nurse or Practical Nurse in the Department of War for at least one year, or are currently employed as a Nurse or Practical Nurse in the Department of War, AND after commencing work as a nurse or practical nurse in the Department of War obtained a bachelor's degree or graduate degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Exemption: You are exempt from the qualification requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
