What you'd do

This position is located in the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, Excecutive Office, Office of the Chief Technology Officer. The incumbent serves as a Data scientist who analyze statistical and programming methologies, interpret and communicate data insights. and provides strategic recommendations for the technological modernization of existing services. Major duties

Advises on analytical, statistical, and programming methodologies to effectively harvest, structure, and interpret highly complex, unique datasets. Collaborates with internal customers and technical peers to map out operational workflows and recommend optimal analysis methodologies to meet leadership decision-making needs. Advises senior leadership on interpreting and communicating data insights, while making strategic recommendations for the technological modernization of existing services.

What you need to qualify

Applicants must meet all the required qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement. If you are qualifying based on education OR if there are mandatory education requirements listed below, you MUST submit a copy of your college transcript with your application. NOTE: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements, by the closing date of this announcement. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F. Applicants MUST meet the required basic entry qualification requirements described below: BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Have a Bachelor's degree in computer science OR bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. Evaluation of Education - Applicants should have sufficient knowledge to understand the fundamental concepts and techniques of computer science. Courses designed to provide an introduction to computer science techniques and methodologies, to problems of system design, and to other specialized fields are acceptable. NOTE: Courses or experience in teaching elementary, business, or shop mathematics are NOT acceptable. Note: All applicants WILL BE required to submit transcripts as verification of educational requirement by the closing date of this announcement. If you fail to provide requested information, or the information you submit is insufficient to verify your eligibility, you WILL lose consideration for this position. IN ADDITION to the basic requirements, this position requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience making recommendations regarding feasibility and implementation of technologies. Experience advising senior leadership in interpreting analytical insights from data or technical system processes.
