About the Position: This position is assigned to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy (DASD (MC&FP), Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (M&RA), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Personnel and Readiness (USD (P&R)). This position may be eligible for situational telework as determined by the agency policy.

Major duties

Provide strategic vision, leadership, and direction for Military Community Support Programs, aligning regional activities with national program goals and objectives. Manage and direct a team of Regional Team Leads, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. Oversee the implementation of programs and services across the assigned region, ensuring alignment with agency goals, contractual requirements, and quality standards. Serve as the primary point of contact for communication and collaboration with Military Services, community partners, and other key stakeholders within the region. Establish regional performance metrics and targets, monitoring progress and identifying areas for improvement. Serve at a primary point of contact for budget, ensuring efficient and effective allocation of resources. Participate in the development and implementation of national program policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing guidance and/or direction on non-medical counseling and family programs, ensuring alignment with agency goals, contractual requirements, and quality standards, supervising and/or mentoring a team of employees, recommending improvements to optimize program effectiveness, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and/or agency policies, reporting to senior leadership on program policy, resource allocation, and/or strategic priorities, and presenting program information to advocate for the needs of military families. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-14). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-14).
