This position is located at the Naval Station Mayport, Morale, Welfare and Recreation(MWR) Department, Golf. The primary purpose of this position is to repair and maintaingolf course equipment and vehicles.

Major duties

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: Equipment Maintenance & Overhaul Performs daily checks, adjustments, preventative maintenance, on-the-spot repairs, and major overhauls on three primary classes of equipment: Light Equipment: Push mowers, walking greens mowers, weed eaters, edgers, sod cutters, chain saws, blowers, fertilizer spreaders, top dressers, and range ball machines. Medium-Light Equipment: Riding greens mowers, sand pros, utility carts, gas/electric golf carts, and pesticide sprayers. Medium Equipment: Fairway mowers, rough units, tractors, backhoes, and front-end loaders. Troubleshoots and repairs complex mechanical components, including carburetors, spark plugs, starters, points, throttles, brakes, transmission clutches, steering assemblies, bearings, drive belts, chains, head gaskets, seals, differentials, distributors, fuel filters, and fuel pumps. Maintains and rebuilds advanced fluid-power systems, including hydraulic lifts, direct-drive hydraulics, and hydrostatic transmissions. Diagnoses and repairs 12V and 48V electrical systems, including wiring, solenoids, and ignition systems, and provides technical advice on electric golf cart repairs. Specialized Turf & Precision Cutting Unit Maintenance Checks and adjusts reel cutting units to ensure proper height, fineness of cut, and appropriate displacement of clippings. Performs precision replacement and calibration of mower blades, reels, and bedknives. Operates specialized machining and fabrication equipment, utilizing both electric and acetylene welding to repair, modify, or reinforce equipment frames and brackets. Operations, Fuel, & Inventory Management Manages fuel and lubricant allocations, ensuring correct grades of oil, fuel, and fuel mixtures are utilized for each specific machine. Maintains written documentation of fuel consumption, tracked by individual operator and machine. Monitors and maintains the stock of tools, parts, and supplies required for continuous equipment upkeep. Conducts market research to obtain pricing on parts, tools, and supplies, and submits procurement lists to the Golf Course Superintendent for approval. Training, Safety, & Record Keeping Trains golf department employees on the safe operation, daily maintenance, and minor on-the-spot adjustments of tools, equipment, and vehicles. Maintains up-to-date equipment and repair logs for all fleet assets. Ensures proper care and utilization of shop tools in strict accordance with manufacturer specifications. Maintains tool and equipment storage facilities in a clean, organized, and secure manner to ensure easy access. Facility & Infrastructure Support Performs structural repairs and renovations on the golf maintenance building as required, including the replacement of siding and other structural components. Assists with the maintenance and repair of the golf course irrigation system, including the troubleshooting and replacement of seals, valves, and sprinkler heads.

What you need to qualify

A qualified candidate must possess the following: Must have a complete knowledge of mechanics, be familiar with hydraulics and transmissions and be able to trouble-shoot and repair equipment and vehicles. Must have two (2) years of documented experience as a mechanic for full performance level. Must be able to plan work and follow complex repair manuals and diagnose repairsrequired. Must be able to operate a wide variety of specialized tools, both light andheavy, necessary for the maintenance and repairs (i.e., drill press, electric/acetylenewelders, engine analyzer, valve grinder, voltmeter, multimeter, reel grinder, tire changer,battery charger, etc.) You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
