This vacancy is for a GS-0301-13, PREPAREDNESS SPECIALIST located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, SECTOR OHIO VALLEY CONTINGENCY PLANNING and FORCE RDNS STF in LOUISVILLE, Kentucky.

Major duties

You will serve as a PREPAREDNESS SPECIALIST and be responsible for serving organizationally as the Chief of the Contingency Planning and Force Readiness Staff, providing subject matter expertise and technical support for the Coast Guard's Preparedness Program including contingency exercises and planning. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Develop and maintain Sector Ohio Valley emergency preparedness plans ensuring alignment with NIMS/ICS, USCG doctrine, inland river system risks, and the unique operational demands of the river basins in the District Lead Sector-wide exercises and drills to strengthen marine transportation system resilience and operational readiness across the inland river system Coordinate preparedness and planning activities across the area of responsibility to ensure unity of effort for incidents affecting the Ohio Valley's waterways Provide emergency management program support during steady state and incidents that identify preparedness gaps, operational impacts, and recommended improvements for the Region. What you need to qualify

To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Experience developing emergency and continuity plans, conducting risk assessments, and leading HSEEP-compliant exercises and AAR/IPs Knowledge of NIMS/ICS, NRF, USCG emergency management policy, and Ohio Valley inland river system risks Skilled in interagency coordination, stakeholder engagement, and producing clear planning and briefing products; certified in ICS-300/400 and FEMA EM training (IS series/EMI courses) Ability to lead preparedness initiatives, manage multiple projects, and support IMT/EOC activations; preferred qualifications include PSC/LOFR/SITL/PIO IMT certifications and COOP practitioner training NOTE: All experience statements (i.e., duties, specialized experience, or related applicable assessment) copied from this announcement and pasted into your resume will not be considered as a demonstration of your qualifications for this position.
