Major duties

As a participant in the Pathways Recent Graduates Program, you will receive both formal and on-the-job training to develop the required knowledge and skill to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position. Receive, analyze, and process complex and sensitive Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act (FOIA/PA) requests. Ensure compliance with FOIA/PA laws, regulations, and policies to adjudicate which information and documentation can be released. Determine whether responsive records are complete by researching and interpreting legal statues, records policies, and internal procedures. Provide accurate and timely technical assistance for disclosure of FOIA/PA records using automated processing systems to redact records and prepare all necessary correspondence, notices, and other documentation.

What you need to qualify

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 07/14/2026. Time in Grade does not apply to Delegated Examining Announcements, any reference to Time in Grade in the questionnaire will not apply to the rating and ranking of applicants. GS-09: You qualify at the GS-09 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the majority of the following duties: Reviewing complex forms or legal documents for completeness; Applying the principles, concepts, and methods of legal research and analysis to research information using electronic resources; Utilizing automated software to create or process FOIA/PA cases or other legal requests; Inputting information into a database and/or analyzing information within a database. OR You may substitute a Master's degree or two (2) full years of graduate education leading to such a degree in any field, or a J.D. or L.L.B. degree for experience required at the GS-09 grade level. Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester or 54 quarter hours. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build criteria competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer service.
