What you'd do

Major duties
You will operate stake bodies and water tankers to transport construction supplies and equipment. You will operate dump trucks in order to pick up loads from material loaders such as skip loaders, draglines, clamshells, power shovels, grade-all's, and road sweepers. You will perform operational inspections of vehicles for loose parts and broken or cracked springs. You will receive instructions from superiors to determine the type of vehicle to be operated.
What you need to qualify
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Drives all types of trucks from pickups up to and including gross vehicle weight ratings of 32,000 pounds, such as 12 cubic yard dump trucks, 2,500 gallon water trucks, 1,500 gallon refuelers, and materials handling cargo trucks in work related to the construction industry.
