Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist
What you'd do
This position is in Region 6, Office of External Affairs. About Region 6 This is an office-centered position--you must physically report to the duty station stated in this announcement on a regular basis.
Major duties
You will: Plan, organize, direct, and oversee the activities of the Region's Office of External Affairs, providing leadership and supervision for a staff of public affairs specialists, community relations coordinators, congressional liaisons, and related staff. Exercise supervisory personnel management responsibilities to include: direct, coordinate, and oversee work through subordinate supervisors. Represent the organizational unit and Agency with a variety of functional area organizations; establish, develop, and maintain effective working relationships with other Division Managers including the Director, Deputy Directors, other Second-Level Supervisors, and high-level officials outside of the Division and Region and in EPA Headquarters. One or more positions may be filled (in the organization advertised and/or in other organizations), if appropriate to the position.
What you need to qualify
NOTE: You must meet qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement. To qualify for the GS-15 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level defined as organizing and/or performing media interviews, developing communication strategies, community engagement, coordinating outreach events, and/or communicating information through media, such as print, television, radio, web, and/or social media; and coaching, mentoring, or leading others. You will need the following competencies in order to perform the duties of this position successfully: Written Communication Communications and Media Oral Communication Supervisory and Leadership Judgement Human Capital Management Decision Making Partnerning Organizational Awareness Organizational Development Leadership Coaching and Developing Others Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
