Major duties
Salary Clarification: Selectee's with a Bachelor's Degree with Superior Academic Achievement will start at the GS-7/6 + locality for the duty station selected. Offers will range from $58,871-$73,596. Selectee's with a Master's Degree will start at the GS-9 + locality for the duty station selected. Offers will range from: $61,722-$77,161. As a General Engineer/Physical Scientist you will: Design, analyze, build, and test weapons, machines, systems, structures, components, equipment, and materials to fulfill Nuclear Security Enterprise objectives and requirements. Evaluate, oversee, direct, or advise contracted work to ensure quality and compliance with plans, designs, and specifications. Monitor NNSA project operations, performance, and quality assurance advising about NNSA policies and regulations. Participate in NNSA program or project information planning sessions, phase, milestone, and final project reviews and maintain productive interaction with staff; Technically direct, oversee, organize, or act as principal contributors for program segments, on team-based projects and prepare, present, and evaluate plans, designs, reports, and correspondence.
What you need to qualify
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: This position may be filled as a 0801 General Engineer or a 1301 Physical Scientist. Each job series requires applicants to meet a Basic Education Requirement in addition to the requirements listed below. You must meet all qualifications requirements by the closing date of this announcement. All applicants must meet one of the following criteria: Be a recent graduate (January 2024-June 2026) with a Master's Degree in one of the fields below; OR Be a recent graduate (January 2024-June 2026) with a Bachelor's Degree in one of the fields below with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA). SAA is based on: (1) Class Standing - Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; OR (2) Grade-Point Average (G.P.A.) - Applicants must have a grade-point average of either (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.; OR (3) Honor Society Membership - Applicants may be considered eligible based on membership in one of the approved national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies (https://www.achshonor.org/). NOTE: Grade point averages will be rounded to one decimal point. For example, 2.95 will round to 3.0, and 2.94 will round to 2.9. NOTE: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) was taken on a pass/fail or similar basis, your S.A.A. claim must be based on class standing or membership in an honor society and you must provide evidence of your class standing or honor society membership with your application. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
