What you'd do

The primary purpose of this position is to operate gasoline or diesel-powered engineering and construction heavy equipment on flat or rolling terrain, refuse dumps, and/or construction sites with simple terrain problems. The equipment operated at this level typically includes tractors with bulldozer or angledozer blades, backhoes, front-end loaders, excavators, wheel loaders, trench diggers, skid steers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments.

Major duties

Operates gasoline or diesel-powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler type traction, such as road graders, tractors with bulldozers or angle dozer blades, front-end loaders, excavators, backhoes, wheel loader, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments. Some of these vehicles may be equipped with auxiliary attachments (snowplow blades, rotary snow blower, mower and sweeper or sanding units). Operates equipment to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth to rough specifications on such projects as breaking new ground for trails, roads, canals, tunnels, or construction sites. Work is completed to exact specifications on flat or rolling terrain, requiring more "touch" than at lower grade levels. At this level, earth is moved on mountainous and steep slopes, graded curves and shoulders, rocky or soft ground, hilly forests, and other surfaces with similar rough terrain/features Career Seasonal This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for Grand Teton National Park is January through November and late November through December (anticipated non-pay period 11/3-11/16, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions. QUALIFICATIONS To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) Ability To Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle) Operation of Motor Vehicles Reliability and Dependability as a Engineer Equipment Operator Vehicle Operation Work Practices (including keeping things neat, clean, and in order) SCREEN OUTS Minimum Qualification: Perform common duties of Engineering Equipment Operator WG-5716-08. Perform common tasks such as operating gasoline or diesel-powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler type traction, such as road graders, tractors with bulldozer or angle dozer blades, front-end loaders, backhoes, wheel loader, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments. Operate equipment to push, pull, pile, excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth and/or refuse. Operate end loader in the process of moving dirt and materials, plowing snow and filling trucks. Use a dozer to rough in new construction sites, plow snow, rip ice, move stumps, rocks and brush, and stockpile gravel, chips, etc. Use the grader, loader, dozer and dump truck to remove snow from roads and parking lots. Use equipment to perform functions such as cutting, moving, digging, grading, and rolling earth, sand, stone, and other materials, and to maintain ditches, road shoulders and beds. Load, secure and haul equipment to and from project sites using truck and trailer. Work is performed under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Commercial Driver's License: You must possess and maintain a current Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsements and no Air Brake Restriction. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. ICTAP/CTAP: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies. Federal employees seeking CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.605(2) for CTAP and 5 CFR 330.704 for ICTAP. This includes a copy of the agency notice, a copy of their most recent Performance Rating, and a copy of their most recent SF-50 noting current position, grade level, and duty location.
