What you'd do

About the position: This position will be assigned to the 72d Force Support Squadron.

Major duties

Installs, upgrades, and maintains software. Performs system software control functions. Determines whether new software is needed or if existing programs can be enhanced. Installs or removes software packages to include operating system office automation, and special purpose software. Loads appropriate printer drivers; answers technical questions. Maintains FSS NAF operating systems and stand-alone computers to include software upgrades, data separation, equipment maintenance, database maintenance, systems backup, report generations and equipment. Documents user computer equipment and supply requirements for their procurement. Performs inventory of hardware and records the temporary and/or permanent transfer of hardware. Performs inventory of NAF hardware. Assists users in preparing computer hardware/connectivity service requests. Identifies hardware problems and develops solutions for associated short and long-term effects. Determines whether hardware repair with vendor support or local assets are needed. Performs NAF equipment maintenance. Provides guidance and assistance to NAF customers. Demonstrates processes and procedures to NAF users. Prepares operating procedures and recommends automated methods for better use of resources. Prepares operating instructions for NAF system equipment and computer programs including courses of action to be taken when anticipated machine errors occur, control setups, emergency shutdown procedures, and procedures for rebooting the system. Maintains, interprets, and writes portions of NAF operating equipment and user manuals and instructions. Performs system tests and completes appropriate worksheets and reports. Monitors the operation of automated programs and responds to problems by diagnosing and correcting errors. Creates program scripts and macros as appropriate. Implements timely changes and analyzes the results for any additional actions required. Coordinates the disposal of obsolete NAF inventory with proper documentation and authorization. Enforces computer and network security standards. Performs other related duties as assigned. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must have a working knowledge of computer hardware and/or software and associated equipment, configurations and interconnecting components used to activate, control and monitor computer equipment, computer networks and network administration. Must have knowledge of information processing sequences, controls and procedures. Must have the ability to use and maintain a computer system, equipment and software. Must have the ability to analyze computer software and/or hardware problems and develop economical solutions. Must have the ability to train users. Must be A+, Network + or Security + certified or must be able to obtain Network+, Security+ or A+ certification within 6 months of employment. Specialized experience that provides knowledge of the basic principles, theories, practices, techniques for DOS, TCP/IP protocol, LANs and WANs, client/server and knowledge of point of sale systems is highly recommended.
