This National Guard position is for a TITLE 32 ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN (MI CRTC), Position Description Number NGD1878000 and is part of the MI Alpena CRTC, Michigan Air National Guard. Major duties
This vacancy may qualify for a Recruitment Incentive up to 25% of the basic salary rate. ***THIS IS A TITLE 32 NATIONAL GUARD POISITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP*** This position is located at an Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Air Traffic Control (ATC) Squadron, Airfield Systems Flight. The purpose of the position is to provide technical expertise to maintain and certify Air traffic Control and Landing Systems (ATCALS). This includes performing investigation, analysis, diagnosis, testing, tuning, correction, optimization, alignment, and verification/certification to ensure continuous and reliable operation of air traffic control and landing and communication systems. 1. Certifies assigned systems and sub-systems to ensure compliance with USAF and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) established standards and safety requirements. ATCALS cannot be used unless certified by the employee. 2. Determines when equipment malfunctions warrant shutdown of various systems. Acts as expert technical consultant to determine whether systems are operationally acceptable and safe within the prescribed standards and tolerances for air traffic control and air navigation. 3. Provides technical guidance, training, and assistance to other technicians and conducts on-the-job (OJT) training to apprentices in all phases of work. Conducts and documents OJT in all phases of equipment maintenance. Certifies task qualifications and schedules task training. 4. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Technicians will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (Grade Inversion). Enlisted members currently at a higher grade than allowed by the position (see Military Grade Requirement above) may apply; however, they must administratively reduce prior to appointment and provide confirmation of the reduction to HRO. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training performing simple mechanical installations and adjustments. Experience which demonstrates the applicant's ability to recognize obvious malfunctions. A good understanding of basic electronic theories and techniques and familiarity with standard electronic components and their use. Tracing circuitry, diagnosing malfunctions and adjusting controls to achieve peak performance. Experience using specific layout and schematic diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment such as power supplies, oscillators, amplifiers, etc. Using advanced methods in a full-range of troubleshooting procedures, techniques, and usage of test-set related equipment. Experience using common hand tools. Experience that demonstrates the ability to follow written instructions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-11 and above - must have 1-year equivalent to at least next lower grade level experience, education, or training in utilizing principles, basic functions, and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment. Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems. Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment. Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc. Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications. Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions. Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed.
