Motor Vehicle Operator
What you'd do
This position is located in the Department of the Veterans Affairs VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (GLA) in Nutrition and Food Service (NFS). As the Motor Vehicle Operator you will operate a variety of trucks used in the transportation of food, assembled trays and supplies to patient care galley for GLA.
Major duties
Secure all food carts and containers with liquid. Secure assembled food rays in vehicle to avoid disruption during transportation. Pick up or transports food and supplies in and out of proper storage areas. Ensure all transported food and food scheduled for transportation is stored correctly and at the proper temperature. Assist with covering trays, and cleaning delivery carts when assigned. Loading trays onto delivery carts properly, ensuring hot and cold foods are oriented to correct sides. Utilize computer systems when needed to obtain information related to storage and distribution of food, meal trays/carts and supplies. Perform operator maintenance on all vehicles operated e.g. monitoring fluid levels, replacing air filter and interior lights, checking tire pressure and hose connections and washing the vehicle exterior. What you need to qualify
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/20/2026. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Exposed to extended periods of bending stooping, lifting, carrying and walking to complete assignments. Moderate physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects weighing (or requiring the force of) 25-50 pounds or more. Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment including weight belts, utilize proper loading equipment, and employ recommended lifting techniques to prevent injury and/or damage to property.
