Health Technician (Telemetry)
What you'd do
The Health Technician (HT) Telemetry position is located within the Nursing, Acute Care service line at the Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center in Miami, FL. Telemetry Health Technicians at this level are under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/ or assigned designee. They will be assigned to the central telemetry monitoring unit working a rotating tour of duty.
Major duties
Duties included but not limited to: Continuous cardiac monitoring and direct and indirect patient care. Provide continuous ECG rhythm observation while concentrating on observation of patient status through review of ECG strips and recognition of arrhythmias. Provide assistance of a technical, specialized, or support nature to health and medical personnel in supporting the diagnostic or treatment process of patients with cardiac conditions. Recognizes problems through continuous EKG monitoring with accurate recognition and documentation of cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias and interval measurements. Observes and reports rhythm changes that may correlate with medications and communicates deviations in baseline rhythms to registered nurse timely. Identifies any life-threatening environmental hazards immediately, takes appropriate action, and reports findings to the registered nurse. Performing simple treatment procedures such as changing sterile dressings and applying slings or bandages. Provide continuous monitoring of cardiac rate, rhythm, and patterns of conduction at a central monitoring station for patients. Maintains clean monitor screen and telemetry monitoring work area to ensure cleanliness and tidiness. Prepares, delivers, and actively participates in the unit's educational in-service programs provided to staff and patients. Work Schedule: 7:30 pm- 8:00 am (Work schedule is determined and approved by the supervisor. What you need to qualify
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/22/2026. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Applying telemetry monitoring equipment, recognizing and reporting cardiac rhythms and changes to nursing staff, monitoring treatments and/or procedures performed at the bedside; documenting patient's medical records; operating, cleaning, and/or sanitizing commonly used equipment; possessing knowledge of medical terminology, common diseases affecting the patient population, the cardiac cycle, and electrophysiologic function of the heart. .
