Budget Analyst
What you'd do
These positions will serve as a Budget Analyst, GS-0560-13, within one of eight Geographic Areas of the U.S. Wildland Fire Service (USWFS). Please see Duties section for more information on each Geographic Area. Note that one or more positions may be filled from applications received under this announcement in the advertised office or other U.S. Wildland Fire Service offices in the local commuting area.
Major duties
Multiple positions will be placed in each of the established Geographic Areas (GAs) listed below for the US Wildland Fire Service. Applicants must use the linked map below to determine which GA(s) they would like to be considered. Please note, location is negotiable within the Geographic Areas you select during the application process. If hired, you must physically report to an approved DOI Facility within your chosen GA(s). Evaluating program financial plans and operational cost structures to ensure alignment with authorized levels and strategic direction. Contributing to workforce planning decisions by analyzing labor cost scenarios, full-time equivalent (FTE) utilization, and staffing sustainability. Collaborating with organizational and bureau-level financial management offices to synchronize accounting data with program execution information. Responsible for the full execution cycle for appropriated funds, including apportionments, sub allotments, operating plans, reprogramming actions, and distribution of supplemental/emergency funding.
What you need to qualify
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-07/24/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. Minimum Qualification GS-13 EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: tracking expenditures by proper accounts and type; providing information on salary calculations and employment ceilings for incorporation into budget planning, preparation, and execution; analyzing and evaluating changes in program plans and funding and their effect on the budget; and preparing financial reports consistent with regulations and guidelines. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time In Grade Requirement: Applicants must meet both eligibility and qualification requirements for the position of interest by the closing date of the job announcement. Specifically, i.
