Supervisory Interdisciplinary (Supervisory Integrated Resource Manager)
What you'd do
This position is located in Great Basin National Park, in the Resource Management Division and serves as the senior principal advisor in the management of natural and cultural resources and planning. The position is responsible for leadership, planning, administration, program direction, coordination and evaluation of a complex natural and cultural resources program, science and research program, and compliance program at Great Basin National Park.
Major duties
At the full performance level (GS-12) the major duties of this Supervisory Integrated Resource Manager position include, but are not limited to the following: Provide superintendent's office and fellow division managers with information and recommendations on natural and cultural resource issues and management actions. Identify natural cultural resource priorities and research needs. Provide a cultural and natural resources perspective into park management decisions and planning documents. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff at all levels, national, regional and local (e.g. headquarters Washington, regional office, and park). Demonstrate understanding, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern in relating to people from varied backgrounds and situations. Tactfully and effectively communicate with tribal governments and tribal partners in a manner that respects tribal sovereignty and cultural values, builds trust, and creates opportunities for collaboration. Formulate and administer an annual operating budget involving staffing needs, material equipment needs, and work projects, with related costs and yearly work schedule. Successfully seek funding for cultural or natural resource priorities and projects through NPS, grant, and private sector funding sources. Prepare requests for proposals or statements of work to accomplish natural and cultural resource projects and priorities. Supervise subordinate natural and cultural resources staff following law, policy, and best management practices to support Great Basin National Park. Carry out program management duties by developing work plans and schedules, scopes of work, cost estimates and directing subordinate staff. Serve as the agency's technical representative (ATR or COTR) on contracts or agreements to ensure completion of projects within scope, schedule and budget. Develop and negotiate cooperative and interagency agreements and other cooperative instruments to effectively carry out resource management goals. Work with other subject matter specialists such as architects, landscape architects, archeologists, biologists, hydrologists, and historians from within and outside the agency for the purposes of exchanging professional information and securing cooperation for park programs and projects. Prepare and coordinate written NEPA and NHPA related consultation with federal, state, or tribal governments and agencies. Provide oversight of projects to ensure appropriate NEPA and NHPA compliance and presentation of results and concerns to management officials. Implement NPS museum management practices and policies.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must meet the following requirement for at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: You must meet the following Basic Requirements in order to be eligible for this position (you must include transcripts when meeting basic requirements with the degree or combination of education and experience): General Anthropology Series 0190: Degree: appropriate field of anthropology. -OR- Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major, or a combination of courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in an appropriate field of anthropology, or related course work, plus appropriate experience or additional education. -OR- Experience: four years of appropriate experience in anthropology performing research, museum work, or similar professional-level work. Archeology Series 0193: Degree that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas: History of archeology Archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa Regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development Theory and methods of archeology. Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating, and analytical techniques Archeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work - and Six semester hours of related course work in: geography, geology, or cultural geography history, historiography, or historical archeology environmental studies scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or surveying and Archeological field school -OR- Related Curriculum: degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements above (including archeological field school). - OR - Combination of Education and Experience -College-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described in A above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education. -OR- Experience -Four years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project. Biological Sciences Series 0401: Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR- Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Fish Biology Series 0482: Degree: major in biological science that included: At least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology; and At least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences in such subjects as general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, entomology, parasitology, ecology, cellular biology, genetics, or research in these fields. (Excess course work in aquatic subjects may be used to meet this requirement when appropriate.) -OR- Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), of which a minimum of 6 semester hours were in aquatic subjects and 12 semester hours were in the animal sciences, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
