Major duties

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Band 2 Geospatial Analysts assist in creating, analyzing, and interpreting geospatial data to support U.S. military and policymaker interests. They apply basic knowledge of geographic information science and technology, statistics, spatial thinking, remote sensing, intelligence issues, and the social and physical sciences to characterize events, discover relationships and trends, and produce geospatial-intelligence. With guidance, these analysts also conduct multi-INT research, conduct descriptive analyses, populate and exploit intelligence databases, and produce and disseminate intelligence products. Band 2 Geospatial Analysts begin developing knowledge of a broad range of regional or functional issues. They may be required to support relationships with their IC.

What you need to qualify

MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). Online resumes must demonstrate qualification by providing specific examples and associated results, in response to the announcement's mandatory criteria specified in this vacancy announcement: 1) Experience interpreting analytic results to identify patterns and trends and draw appropriate conclusions. (GIS) 2) Experience reviewing data for integrity, accuracy, and/or currency. (Data/Information Mgmt) 3) Experience applying appropriate analytic methods and techniques to develop new insights. (Analytic Assessment) 4) Experience preparing clear arguments to support or defend methods and processes. (Analytic Assessment) 5) Experience using written and oral communication skills to develop and present findings to various audiences. 6) Experience applying geospatial techniques within a GIS platform to draw analytical conclusions for both routine and non-routine situations. (GIS) EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Geography, Physical Science, Data Analytics, Cartography, Statistics, or a related field -OR- a Bachelor's degree in any discipline with a certificate in GIS from an accredited university. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of coursework in GIS, spatial analysis, or any area listed in option A, plus experience working in an Intelligence and/or analytical discipline requiring creating, analyzing, and interpreting spatial data, or related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals 4 years. -OR- C. Experience: A minimum of 4 years of experience working in an Intelligence and/or analytical discipline requiring creating, analyzing, and interpreting spatial data, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Distinguish principal colors and shades/hues of principal colors; Near visual acuity of 20/20 or better with or without corrective lenses DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: 1) Experience importing and reformatting data (such as geodatabase, excel, python, etc) according to standard procedures. (Data/Information Mgmt) 2) Experience analyzing geospatial data and imagery to determine the likelihood, significance, and/or implications of typical activities or events. (Analytic Assessment) 3) Experience disseminating routine information, data, and/or products to support customer requirements. (Information Dissemination)
