What you'd do
This position is located at the Department of Veterans Affairs Central California Health Care System(VACCHCS), which is a Level 1c facility and ranks among a complex system in the VA serving the VASierra Pacific Network (VISN 21). The VACCHCS offers a full range of comprehensive health careservices including primary care, medical and surgical subspecialties as well as inpatient andoutpatient mental health care.
Major duties
Performs fault isolation, repairs, and adjustments on water based and refrigerant based heating, ventilation and air condition systems. This includes multi zone direct expansion heating and cooling systems, energy recovery ventilators, chilled and hot water air conditioning systems, fan coil units / air handling units. Performs installation, fault isolation, component replacement and basic programming of direct digital systems (DDC) as they relate to the monitoring and control of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Performs fault isolation, component replacement and basic adjustments to pneumatic control systems as they relate to the monitoring and control of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Performs installation, fault isolation and minor repairs on manual valves, electrically powered valves, water pumps, air control dampers, and air compressors. Performs installation and minor repairs on air conveyance ducting made of metal, vinyl, plastic or fabric, to include insulation of such ducting. Performs minor repairs and operates steam to hot water heat exchangers. Performs installation, fault isolation, repair and adjustment of refrigeration systems related to pharmaceutical storage and manufacturing; the storage of human tissues such as blood products, human organs, research specimens, cadavers and chemical reagents; ice generation and storage; and bulk food storage. Responsible for performing testing, adjustment and balancing of air distribution systems using air capture hoods / balometers, manometers, vane anemometers and pitot tubes. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/22/2026. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
