Major duties
Serve as Lead Medical Support Assistant (OA) for the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF),. Distribute daily workload within limits established by the supervisor among employees in accordance with established workflow and priorities. Answer questions regarding substantive matters that require familiarity of policy as well as regarding cancellation of appointments, clinic hours, and release of information on patients’ appointments. Track all referrals for specialty care, ancillary services, and durable medical equipment. Ensure medical records are maintained in compliance with regulatory written guidance. Use a variety of software programs to create database files, retrieve reports, statistical data, rosters, and prepares reports.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for a Lead Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation): Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting clinical staff and beneficiaries with administrative/clerical duties; performing customer service functions, such as answering telephones, relaying messages, and scheduling medical appointments; utilizing a personal computer and software programs to create documents and reports; Creating clinic schedule templates; and maintaining files in either electronic or paper format. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
