This vacancy is for a GS-0185-12, Employee Assistance Program Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, BASE PORTSMOUTH WORK-LIFE DIVISION -HW in PORTSMOUTH, Virginia.
Major duties
You will serve as an Employee Assistance Program Specialist and be responsible for collaboration with CGSUPRT, provision of pre- and post-deployment briefings, suicide prevention trainings, resiliency trainings, psychological first aid and/or operational stress control trainings, workplace violence response efforts, critical/traumatic incident response duties, and evidence-based management of personnel readiness issues impacting units and commands. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Developing, coordinating, implementing, and documenting marketing campaigns, trainings, and education. Promoting total workforce fitness to optimize health, performance, risk-reduction, prevention, resilience, and readiness. Demonstrating a full understanding of the intersecting stressors of work and home life, Providing EAP support to individuals, families, units or the USCG in response to interpersonal and self-directed violence. Recruiting and training CG members (military or civilian), to support operational stress control objectives and critical/ traumatic incident response efforts. Leading CISM teams that are formed following large-scale events. Providing psychological first aid or other appropriate evidence-based critical incident response interventions. What you need to qualify
Basic Requirements: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience or substitution of education for experience or combination (if applicable) in order to be found minimally qualified. Transcripts must be submitted with your application package. You MUST meet the following requirements: EDUCATION: Degree in social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. AND To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Providing direct diagnostic assessment, evaluation, preventative and treatment services evidenced based principles, theories and techniques for the purpose of understanding, preventing and relieving psychological based distress. Participating, coordinating, and conducting evidenced based training, measurements, reports, awareness, prevention, and intervention for various EAP programs. Conducting intensive follow-up services to assist employees in maintaining their health and/or resolution of problems, working with individuals, couples, families, groups, and communities to coordinate and ensure those are connected to appropriate resources.
