What you'd do

This position is located in Patient Business Services/Patient Registration at Phoenix Indian Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The incumbent serves as a Lead Contact Representative, responsible for performing registration, admission, and benefits coordination services for new and returning patients seeking care at the facility. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Major duties

Determines the eligibility of patients seeking health care, who have not previously been treated at the facility. Incumbent will be required to deliver verbal and/or written messages of denial for health services if/when the patients cannot provide appropriate documentation of tribal enrollment. Completes/updates the data entry of the alternate resource and benefits coordination information into the computerized Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS) for the organization. Collects patient's third-party recipient health cards, obtains photocopies of the card, and explains the program to the beneficiaries, including why Medicare, Medicaid, or the private/commercial insurance will be billed for the services they received at the I.H.S. facility. Assures and/or initiates timely entry of AHCCCS and Medicare information to augment outpatient/inpatient billing efforts and to enhance access to health services or other medical specialty care. Updates the RPMS and medical record data sets to reflect current alternate resource information. Distribute and balance the workload among employees by established workflow, ensure timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and that each employee has enough work to keep busy.

What you need to qualify

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-08: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Examples include I have 1 year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: Applying rules and procedures and regulations under the Patient Business Office program; implementing PBO patient resources; advising others of procedural and regulatory requirements; and assigning in the management of PBO patient resources and third party compliance within patient business office.: Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
