The purpose of the position is to perform a wide variety of complex biological science technical support functions. This position is located within the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Intermountain Region, Rocky Mountain National Park, Division of Resource Stewardship. Major duties

The major duties of the Biological Science Technician position include, but are not limited to, the following: Collaborates with a variety of workgroups in different disciplines to minimize and respond to wildlife-human conflicts. Administers proper drug dosages to captured animals, collects biological samples, records animal condition, body measurements, affixes ear-tags and/or radio-collars, and monitors recovery. Maintains scientific databases by collecting, entering, and analyzing data, and prepare reports of project activities. Organizes, conducts, trains, and leads others in field surveys in remote locations to document and assess animal presence, abundance, reproduction, management issues, and population dynamics using established protocols and standard scientific equipment.

This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated. Upon completion of your probationary your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. Condition of Employment (Requirement): Drug Test: This position is subject to drug testing based on the collateral duty requiring firearms in the back-country or other locations for non-law enforcement reasons such as protection from animals. Driver's License: The incumbent of this position must have and maintain a valid Driver's License. Those that do not possess this requirement by entrance on duty will be terminated effective immediately. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-07/29/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least of the following of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of Biological Science Technician, GS-0404-07. For this position, specialized experience is experience conducting wildlife inventory and monitoring activities for a variety of wildlife species. For example, leading, training or supervising others in the performance of one or more of the following: wildlife management or research activities; collecting scientific data on wildlife; implementing/assisting with wildlife monitoring programs; testing and/or assessing wildlife; conducting field surveys in remote locations to document and assess animal presence, abundance, reproduction, management issues, and population dynamics using established protocols and standard scientific equipment, or other related work. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education from an accredited educational institution concentrated in a field that is directly related to the work of the position to be filled, such as biology, wildlife biology, fisheries, zoology, wildlife conservation, wildlife management, or other directly related subject matter. You must include transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. You must include transcripts. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Experience listed as full-time will be credited at 40 hours per week. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
