What you'd do

Member Services Veterans Transportation Program (VTP) helps Veterans' access care by overcoming certain transportation barriers that may discourage Veterans from accessing VHA services. VTP assists Veterans through Beneficiary Travel (BT), Highly Rural Transportation Grants (HRTG) and the Veterans Transportation Service (VTS).

Major duties

Major Duties: The incumbent performs developmental assignments under normal supervision. The incumbent independently performs the functions and duties of the position by organizing, researching and completing work assignments pertaining to VHA MS operations. The employee serves as lead for a group of three or more GS-06 Voucher Examiners. The employee resolves discrepancies and/or problems that are associated with claims and/or invoices received and enters/submits those into a centralized automated system. Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Telework: This position may be authorized for Ad-hoc telework. Virtual: This position may be authorized for Virtual Work. Virtual Work eligibility is for current VA employees that are already subject to the return to the in-person work mandate in their current position. Definition of Virtual Work: Employee works outside of original hiring duty station at a VA-owned or leased space. Return to Office (RTO): RTO mandates are in effect and selectees will be required to report to in-person work unless they are approved for an exception or an exemption. Any approval for an RTO exception, exemption, or extension will happen after a tentative job offer, but before a final job offer. What you need to qualify

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/20/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as work that involves (1) Independently setting priorities and organizing work to meet deadlines in accordance with established processes, policies, and regulations; (2) Utilizing automated beneficiary/travel software programs for a large office; (3) Compliance of VA regulations, policies, and procedures regarding Beneficiary Travel; (4) Examining vouchers, invoices, claims, and other requests for reimbursement of travel and transportation expenditures; (5) Determining adequacy of invoices, amount to be paid, legal entitlement, and completing appropriate payments; (6) Collecting, analyzing, and tracking data on a daily basis.
