What you'd do

This position is part of the Defense Human Resources Activity. The incumbent serves as a Human Resources Specialist, DoD authority to interpret and provide advice on DoD-wide Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) policies, procedures, and regulations. Researches, develops, interprets, and coordinates civilian personnel policies applicable to all DoD Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) civilian employees.

Major duties

As a Human Resources Specialist at the GS-0201-13 some of your typical work assignments may include: Draft, revise, and edit DoD level nonappropriated fund (NAF) human resources issuances and guidance based on senior leadership direction for staffing, review, and issue by DoW leadership. Research and provide information and recommendations in response to questions from NAF Employees, DoW NAF employers, and DoW leadership involving NAF Human Resources. Attend and participate in meetings and working groups to provide information and technical expertise regarding NAF Human Resources policies and practices. Review and analyze emerging laws and regulations to determine potential applicability to NAF HR operations and functions. Review and interpret data related to NAF HR Programs and operations and utilize results to recommend updates to leadership regarding policies and guidance.

What you need to qualify

You may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service: - Work experience showing performance of duties and knowledge in more than one specialized area of Human Resources. - Demonstrated ability to review and interpret laws, regulations and policies within the Human Resources function - Experience researching answers to HR issues and developing findings, and recommendations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
