Pay will vary based on grade level and/or duty location for which you're selected. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate. We expect to fill 10 vacancies at this time; however, additional positions may be filled from this announcement if they become available.

Major duties

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Operate engineering and construction equipment such as road graders, tractors with bulldozer or angle dozer blades, front end loaders, excavators, backhoes, wheel loader or trench diggers in all types of terrain. Complete minor maintenance projects such as cleaning culverts and ditches, clearing brush and other debris from roads and/or firelines, installing cattle guards, culverts, signs, and/or fences, removing snow, etc. Operate equipment and machinery efficiently and safely as prescribed in technical manuals, safety standards, and regulations. Operate motor vehicles such as light and heavy duty pick up trucks, vans, dump trucks, flatbeds, water tanker tucks, semis, lowboys, etc. to transport earth, sand, stone water, equipment, supplies, and people. Perform lower graded carpentry work such as measuring, cutting, constructing, installing, repairing and modifying wood and composite items such as signs, fences, frames, etc. Service and perform light maintenance and minor repairs on gasoline or diesel powered engineering and construction equipment and/or motor vehicles.

There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in the resume materials, that you possess the skill level that has equipped you with the particular job elements to successfully perform the duties of Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified: Ability To Do the Work Without More Than Normal Supervision Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
