What you'd do

This position is being filled under a stream-lined hiring authority, Title 21 of the United States Code (21 US Code 379d-3a) as amended by the 21st Century Cures Act of 2016, section 3072 and the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, Section 3624. The candidate selected for this position will serve under a career or career-conditional appointment and be paid under the provisions of this authority. This position is being recruited based on the Title 21 Pay Table 7, Band B (GS-12 equivalent).

Major duties

Counsels or advises individual employees on sensitive or serious problems related to health or life insurance coverage. Assists managers in making proper referrals to external resources for employees with sensitive or serious problems that are directly related to health and life insurance programs or issues. Provides employees and/or their survivors with definitive answers involving complex benefits questions on CSRS, CSRS Offset, and FERS. Works with employees on complex retirement program situations, such as when combining federal service that has been credited under various and dissimilar programs. Advises top-level managers, resolving complex and difficult problems in interrelated Human Resources functional areas. Provides managers and employees with information and interpretations of the agency's employee benefits administration, and other work life programs, procedures, practices, policies, and guidelines.

What you need to qualify

In order to qualify for the Human Resources Specialist (Employee Benefits) position which falls under the 0201 occupational Series, you must meet the following requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 07/27/2026: RELEVANT YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: Applicants must meet the following relevant years of experience to qualify for this AD-0201- Band B (GS-12 equivalent) position: Five (5) years comparable experience of working in Federal employee benefits, including advising employees and management on Federal employee benefits and retirement programs, health and life insurance, and other work/life programs. Such experience must also demonstrate the ability to interpret and apply Federal laws, regulations, and policies with a high degree of independence, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
