What you'd do
This position is located within the Phoenix Area Indian Health Service, Whiteriver Service Unit, Social Services Department. The incumbent serves as the Director of Social Services and is responsible for the supervision, administration, and overall management of the Social Services Department. Provides leadership for social work personnel, program operations, and staff utilization. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Major duties
Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Social Worker Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) Responsible for program management duties which includes budget management, development of position descriptions, supervising staff and assigning work for the department. Provides direct and indirect patient care services that addresses the overall psychosocial needs of the patient, family, community and Service Unit programs. Provides mental health consultation and training services to staff, various community and tribal groups, agencies such as schools, law enforcement, courts and substance abuse programs, child protection agencies. Ensures staff assist with coordination of patient care through participation and collaboration with community and tribal programs. Requirements: (Continued) Financial Suitability Requirement: This position requires a review of the applicant's financial history as part of the personnel security and suitability determination. Applicants must demonstrate financial responsibility, maintain good standing with creditors, and satisfy all legal financial obligations prior to applying. What you need to qualify
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Basic Requirements: Individual Occupational Requirements - Social Work Series 0185 Degree: Social Work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- Minimum Qualifications: GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks, examples include: Professional and programmatic oversight for development, implementation, and evaluation of social services activities. Directing and managing programs, with responsibility for program effectiveness, evaluation, improvement, and policy. Providing services for complex cases, utilizing advanced assessment, treatment methods, and offering clinical consultation. Independent decision-making authority, experience leading or guiding staff, including participating in hiring actions, supporting performance management, and addressing employee issues. And Selective Placement Factor: Your resume must demonstrate a current, unrestricted license U.S. State license as a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or a Certified Independent Social Worker (CISW). Supervisory Abilities: This is a supervisory position and candidates, in addition to the professional qualifications listed, must have demonstrated in their work experience or training, that they possess, or have potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as required for this position.
