This vacancy is for a GS-1801-13, Marine Investigator (Suspension & Revocation) located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Suspension and Revocation National Center of Expertise in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Major duties

You will serve as a Marine Investigator (Suspension & Revocation) expert with regard to the Coast Guard's Suspension and Revocation program, providing assistance and advice to the Office of Investigation and Casualty Analysis (CG-INV), Sector Commanders, and Investigations field offices on issues involving S&R, Investigative best practices, and policies. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Review pleadings for accuracy, evidence sufficiency, jurisdiction, authority, and recommend an appropriate sanction. Advise Sector Commanders, Investigating Officers (IOs), and attorneys on Suspension & Revocation (S&R) case development and management. Prepare cases for filing by conducting investigations, drafting complaints, orders to show cause, preliminary motions, and supporting affidavits and briefs in support of administrative hearings. Conduct briefings, training, and making oral presentations on the Coast Guard S&R program and /or administrative hearing procedures. What you need to qualify

To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis. Conduct and prepare suspension and revocation cases in accordance with applicable agency policy, maritime laws and regulations for administrative action; Research or investigate difficult and complex issues involving Suspension and Revocation (S&R) programs or similar violations of law; Utilize computer systems (i.e. word-processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, graphics, communications, databases, and Internet publishing systems, etc.) to plan and support unit operations and priorities for the mission; and Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve evidentiary issues, policy concerns, and/or data calls.
