Electronics Technician
What you'd do
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: Open to current permanent FAA employees within the AJW-2E organization As an Electronics Technician the incumbent will apply skill and knowledge of electronics to perform basic but progressively more difficult assignments associated with analyzing, installing, repairing, fabricating, or troubleshooting electronic, electrical and mechanical systems and components.
Major duties
Duties at the G Band: Repairs and calibrates general purpose test equipment to include electronic and physical/dimensional equipment. May provide on-the job training to developmental technicians. Applies experience and detailed technical knowledge of the applicable discipline as well as applicable procedures and policies. Performs installation, modification, inspection, and repair of equipment used in the National Air Space (NAS). Exercises a complete knowledge of the operation and characteristics of various equipment used in the NAS such as Radar, navigational aids, communications and other NAS equipment at an advanced level. Follows established procedures and suggests changes, which may improve efficiency. Exercises an overall knowledge for test equipment used to repair and/or calibrate equipment in the NAS. Conducts overall performance checks of systems and equipment of higher complexity. Modifies and evaluates various systems and equipment in facilities. Performs other varied assignments with a number of systems and equipment. Performs routine assignments independently, receiving little or no technical guidance. Supervisor furnishes general instructions on the scope of work, time limitations, and priorities. Technical manuals, manufacturers¿ instructions, FAA procedures, and other publications provide guidance for most assignments. Some judgment is required in selecting the most appropriate approach. Supervisors, team leaders, or more experienced technicians are available to provide guidance. Work is reviewed to an extent consistent with the complexity of the assignment. H Band: Plans, coordinates, and performs work with a high degree of independence keeping the manager informed of significant problem areas. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of the NAS as an integrated system in order to deal with unusual problems or unanticipated issues. Independently evaluates the functional status of systems and facilities. Performs multiple, varying and complex projects. Applies experience and technical knowledge to review installation designs and specifications, prepare material take-off lists, manage project logistics, purchase materials, determines and implements construction methods, evaluates and prepares risk mitigation plans, installs/constructs/integrates equipment and systems, complies with safety procedures, tests and troubleshoots issues, coordinates activities with stakeholders, provides project status updates, attends project meetings, executes site surveys, participates in CAl's and JAI's, and performs other project related tasks. Incumbent may be called upon to provide guidance and training to other employees. Work is reviewed in terms of appropriateness of actions taken, thoroughness, and the achievement of overall objectives. Work may have direct impact on air traffic control operations. Contacts are internal and external to the organization such as, but not limited to, State and Federal agencies, Defense (DoD), airport management, contractors, and utility companies. Incumbent maintains technical competency on legacy systems, as well as obtains the skills to install, integrate, maintain, and restore new, technologically advanced, systems. Uses appropriate technical documentation for guidance in performing work. Exercises practical judgment and discretion in accomplishing work assignments. Possesses broad knowledge of FAA policies and procedures pertaining to the work environment (i.e. OSHA, NEC, HR Directives, etc.). Demonstrates sound knowledge of administrative tools and policies related to the accomplishment of work.
What you need to qualify
To qualify for this position at the FV-G (FG/GS-10-11) level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-F, FG/GS - 9. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience for the G band is experience installation, maintenance and modification of electronics equipment. Equipment to include but is not limited to radar systems, navigational aid equipment such as lighted and distance measuring equipment, communication systems such as radio/microwave communications. To qualify for this position at the FV-H (FG/GS-12) level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-G, FG/GS 10/11 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience for the H band is experience in installation, inspection, troubleshooting and repair of systems and system components such as computers, navigation and communications equipment, and electronic data communications equipment.
