About the Position: This position is located at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Recruitment Incentive may be authorized. Relocation Incentive may be authorized. Student Loan Repayment may be authorized. Advanced Leave Accrual may be authorized. Advanced In-hire may be authorized.
Major duties
Provides treatment services for co-occurring disorders. Screen for psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms. Analyze and interpret data to determine treatment recommendations and priorities with the individual served, formulate mutually agreed-upon, measurable treatment goals and objectives. Serve as a team leader for an interdisciplinary team (IDT) that manages the overall treatment of the patient. Provide asessment individual therapy, group therapy, psycho-social skills building groups (such as coping skills, anger management), education workshops, crisis intervention and referral services to patients in the treatment program. Evaluate and provide input into counselor development of clinical skills bi- annual valuations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist: Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing mental health assessments, developing behavioral health treatment plans or recommendations, and providing psychological counseling. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). AND Licensure: This position requires a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. (NOTE: You must provide a copy of your license with your application package). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
