What you'd do

This position is located in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (OCAO), Office of Administrative Services (OAS), Security Division. The incumbent assists in the administration of the agency's physical security programs and a variety of security-related administrative and technical duties.

Major duties

The physical worksite for this position is located in Alexandria, Virginia. Presence at the Alexandria, VA campus is required for this role, as it includes on site functions that must be performed in person. Position may be eligible for situational telework in accordance with agency policy/business unit discretion. The agency currently allows for 52 hours of telework per calendar year. This position is perfect for you if: You are developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, instructions, procedures, control systems, and methods for such functions and activities as: development of classification guides, document marking, safeguarding, and use personnel/physical access controls physical storage and control security education You are excited about reviewing plans for proposed or new projects to assure the presence of adequate planning for information security and other security controls. You are committed to developing, implementing, and monitoring procedures for complying with restrictions on transferring technological information to other nations. You thrive at reviewing requests from foreign governments or from other Federal and non-Federal individuals or groups for classified or controlled unclassified information and make determinations about the releasability of the requested information or technology.

What you need to qualify

You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. You must meet all eligibility and qualifications requirements by the closing date of the job announcement. OPM Qualifications Standards are available at Security Administration Series 0080. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, you must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service: For this position, the next lower grade level is a GS- 12. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience implementing policies to protect sensitive compartmented information (SCI) or collateral classified material across networks; Experience in the development of classification guides, document marking, safeguarding, and use; personnel access controls; need to know criteria; physical storage and control; security education; and transmitting, transferring, reproducing, downgrading, and destroying information. Experiences providing security advice and/or assistance to senior level managers, other security staff and local governments; and Experience developing, justifying and the formulation of budget requirements required for physical security. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
