About the Position: This position is located with Evans Army Community Hospital, with the Directorate of Clinical Support, Department of Preventive Medicine Occupational Health in Tooele Utah. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Student Loan repayment may be authorized. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.
Major duties
Serves as a technical supervisor and coordinator for local-level industrial hygiene services, leading and scheduling sampling surveys for a team of junior Industrial Hygienists and Technicians. Plans and administers comprehensive industrial hygiene sampling for a complex, multi-mission installation, including military activities engaged in highly complex industrial processes. Develops advanced sampling strategies, techniques, and methods for evaluating indoor air quality, toxicological data, biological agents (fungi), and physical hazards (ionizing and non-ionizing radiation). Conduct quantitative and qualitative surveys of working conditions to determine the nature and magnitude of hazardous exposures and evaluate the effectiveness of existing control measures (e.g., chemical hoods, local exhaust ventilation, and PPE). Evaluate proposed new work processes and materials, particularly in novel or experimental operations, to assure incorporation of adequate measures for the prevention of occupational disease hazards. Investigate complex health problems among workers (e.g., loss of hearing acuity, chemical dermatitis) and evaluate confined space entries for atmospheric hazards to develop safe entry procedures. Formulate directives, SOPs, laboratory orders, and information bulletins related to the occupational health program.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Industrial Hygienist Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technicology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. OR Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes planning, administering, and conducting comprehensive occupational or environment health surveys; executing complex, quantitative sampling strategies to evaluate chemical/physical hazards utilizing advanced industrial hygiene real-time exposure instruments such as air sampling trains, sound level meters, personal noise dosimeters according to established OSHA methods; evaluating and testing the effectiveness of engineering controls, such as local exhaust ventilation systems; and developing sampling methods and risk analyses for novel chemicals/substances with no established regulatory limits. Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) Certification or American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) Certification is highly desired but not required.
