MAIL ASSISTANT
What you'd do
About the Position:Plans, implements, and administers all aspects of the cost control program, classified functions, records maintenance, and disposition actions for the Official Mail program. Compiles, and maintains daily statistics on activity expenditures by category, including mail class, permits, express mail, and the United Parcel Service (UPS). Enforces Department of Defense (DoD), U.S. Army regulations and organizational policies that pertain to the installation's Official Mail services.
Major duties
Enforces DOD, Army, and local installation regulations and organizational policy as pertains to local postal service. Assesses requisitions submitted through pinpoint distribution accounts that are above authorized allowance limits and approve or denies them based on established criteria. Establishes messenger delivery schedules for accurate pickup and delivery of unclassified mail distribution and printed matter for supported activities. Analyzes and compiles statistical data on postal expenditures, including metered mail, mail classes, permit fees, express deliveries, private carrier usage, and penalty mail stamps. Investigates complaints of inadequate mail service to initiate actions to improve service when justified. Serve as point of contact on the installation for answering questions and resolving problems presented by clerical personnel of general and special staff offices. Utilizes a computer terminal with word processing and database management software programs to produce textual materials and handle data such as reports.

Current Civilian Employees of the Organization In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) process incoming and outgoing mail; 2) perform postal operations to include operating mail metering systems and equipment; and 3) provide guidance and assistance to organizations on the proper mailing procedures. This definition of general experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
