General Engineer/Physical Scientist
What you'd do
The incumbent serves as a Nuclear Safety Specialist in the office of the Assistant Manager for Environment, Safety, and Health in the Nevada Field Office (NA-NV), leading interdisciplinary teams performing technical reviews of nuclear safety documentation.
Major duties
As a General Engineer/Physical Scientist you will: Serves as a recognized technical authority and advisor to senior Site Office and Program managers and safety professionals on matters pertaining to the safety authorization basis or safety of operations in nuclear and/or non-nuclear hazardous facilities. Exercises line management responsibility or directly advises authorizing officials in ensuring that a manageable set of technical safety requirements has been created to control analyzed hazards and that safety management programs are sufficient to comply with regulations and support safe operations. Provides oversight of contractor operations and activities involving operational safety; start-up and restart activities; safety analysis; incident reporting; program evaluation; and performs assessments of the Management and Operating (M&O) Contractor's performance. Represents the agency in hearings, high level meetings, conferences and special working groups with M&O (Management and Operating) contractor executives and subject matter experts, State and Federal regulators, and oversight entities.
What you need to qualify
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA pay band level or GS grade level in the Federal Service, i.e.. EN-03 pay band or GS-13 equivalent. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience in expert technical review of documented safety analysis and technical safety requirement documentation and originating new and improved applications and strategies for scientific or engineering concepts, theories, and principles; investigating, evaluating, advising on, and resolving unusual problems, issues, and conditions, in multidisciplinary contexts. Examples of Specialized Experience: Evaluating and analyzing programs and applicable guidance for adequacy and formulating revisions to higher management. Composing and presenting complex, technical, sensitive information and concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Analyzing technical reports, publications, and matter that contain advanced and highly complex concepts, data, and design information to inform program investment recommendations. Reviewing engineering reports or written evaluations to ensure quality and accuracy. Your application and resume should demonstrate that you possess the following competencies.
