About the Position: Serves as the top civilian advisor and Deputy to the Commander, executing operations with full decision-making authority. Manages 500-600 personnel and oversees multi-million dollar budgets, infrastructure, ammunition, and logistics. Represents the installation at the HQDA/DoD level, spearheads long-range strategic business planning, and directs subordinate installations and missions. Highly visible role requiring seasoned technical judgment and executive leadership.

Major duties

Serve as the principal civilian advisor and Deputy to the Commander with full operational authority to make binding decisions in their absence. Direct a diverse workforce of 500-600 personnel and manages all aspects of depot operations, including ammunition surveillance, storage, and logistics. Oversee multi-million dollar capital investments, infrastructure improvements, and operational budgets to maximize efficiency and control overhead. Formulate long-range strategic plans, local policies, and business plans to position the installation competitively for future workload. Represent the depot at high-level conferences with DoD, Army Materiel Command, industry partners, and congressional stakeholders. Coordinate comprehensive support programs spanning environmental protection, physical security, safety, finance, and information management. Approve critical organizational changes, position structures, and work schedules for major subordinate organizations.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience directing the work of subordinate supervisors and overseeing large-scale, complex programs. Experience developing long-range strategic plans, managing multi-million dollar budgets, and making authoritative decisions on resource allocation and organizational restructuring. Experience representing an organization at a high level, negotiating with senior leaders from other agencies and the public, and influencing outcomes that advance the mission and goals of ammunition and depot programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-14). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-14).
