Environmental Services Technician
What you'd do
This position is part of the Environmental Management Services Division at the Western New York VAMC in Buffalo. The role includes performing both janitorial and custodial services, such as distributing and inventorying textiles, sanitizing and disinfecting areas, removing waste, cleaning blinds, replacing curtains, washing windows and walls, dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures, cleaning discharges, sweeping, scrubbing, extracting, and polishing floors, and applying floor finishes.
Major duties
Major Duties assigned: Perform a full range of housekeeping activities in patient and non-patient care areas. Clean and maintain assigned areas throughout the medical facility. Sweep, dust mop, damp and wet mop, scrub, strip, refinish, buff, vacuum, and extract carpets and runners. Spot clean areas and perform high and low dusting. Wash walls, doors, doorframes, baseboards, corners, edges, and stairwells. Utilize pressure washers and heavy industrial cleaning equipment as needed. Adjust, clean, and perform minor maintenance on cleaning equipment, attaching the correct tools for each task. Empty trash and wastebaskets, replace liners, and transport general refuse, regulated medical waste, and recycling to central collection areas. Clean restrooms, bathrooms, and shower rooms, including disinfecting and deodorizing lavatories, showers, bathtubs, urinals, toilets, mirrors, sinks, water fountains, and fixtures. Replenish supplies of paper towels, toilet paper, hand sanitizers, and soap in all dispenser locations. Perform a full range of housekeeping tasks in patient and non-patient areas. Clean and maintain assigned spaces, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting. Sanitize and disinfect restrooms, showers, and patient rooms. Remove waste and recycling, and replenish supplies such as paper towels and soap. Operate and maintain cleaning equipment, including scrubbers, buffers, and vacuum cleaners. Wash windows, walls, blinds, and replace curtains as needed. Follow safety protocols and work independently or as part of a team. Additional duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Wednesday - Friday, 3:30pm - Midnight or Saturday - Sunday, 7:00am - 3:30am. May work other shifts, weekends, and holidays based on needs of the agency.
