Materials Handler
What you'd do
This position serves as a Warehouse Worker located within the Warehouse area of the Supply Chain Management Service in the Veterans Affairs Health Care System performing work that involves handling and/or overseeing one or more product lines, a segment of a large warehouse, or may serve as the senior employee in a smaller warehouse or supply facility. This is a full-time position at 40 hours a week.
Major duties
The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Develops and implements storage plans for assigned area(s) and arranges for movement of supplies between warehouse locations; Consolidates materials, and provide maximum space utilization and protection of materials; Coordinates incoming and outgoing shipments and placement of materials on docking areas; Selects specific storage locations within framework of general warehousing plan; Rotates stock, check for outdated materials and maintains the appropriate safeguards and temperature controls; Handles delivering and warehousing materials including hazardous, flammable and temperature sensitive products; Drives vehicles, trucks or vans not exceeding 4500 pounds vehicular weight, with electrical or hydraulic lift; Groups supplies in a logical and easy access manner while ensuring maximum efficiency of space; Submits monthly reports, status updates, periodic monitors and setting benchmarks; Coordinates all excess/turn-ins of equipment and materials; May serve as a senior member of a warehouse project team; Performs other related duties as assigned. In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/27/2026. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Preferred Experience: 1 year of material handler experience. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Required to drive a truck for several hours to reach the remote location of service. Required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, climb and stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, with heavier items being moved with handling equipment or the assistance of other workers. Moves supplies and materials with pallet jacks, forklifts and through physical labor. During travel, considerable physical effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs. Considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination and concentration. Working Conditions: Position will operate motor vehicles in all types of traffic and weather conditions on public roads and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Works both indoors and outdoors, including areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, and / or poorly lighted. Regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. Appropriate protective gear will be supplied and shall always be utilized to minimize such risks. Must be able to sit for long periods of time while driving and is exposed to road hazard conditions daily. will apply all established safety practices.
