Major duties

This position is located in the Administrative Services Division (ASD), Office of the Administrator, National Gallery of Art (NGA). The purpose of this position is to assist with essential services in the transportation, logistics, and personal property management functions. Duties for this position include Serving as Gallery driver with responsibility to transport NGA staff and visitors, supplies, materials, and equipment. Ensuring the comfort and safety of NGA employees, materials and equipment to and from their destination throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area. Operating vehicles over Federal, State, County and City roads, highways, and streets; and at posted speeds through congested areas daily. Selects appropriate routes and obeys all traffic laws, rules, and safety regulations. Operating and maneuvering electric pallet jacks, electric and manual forklifts, cherry pickers, reach lifts, hand trucks, hydraulic dollies, flat-bed trucks, J-Bars, dollies, carts and various other material handling equipment to pickup and deliver materials and supplies throughout the NGA warehouse as necessary. Performing operator preventive maintenance on Gallery owned and leased vehicles, monitors fluid levels and checks hose connections, checks and replaces lights; and checks and maintains proper tire pressures. Duties also include washing and vacuuming vehicles in compliance with Gallery policies and procedures.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability to inspect Operation of Motor Vehicles Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc (related to mobile equipment operation) Ability to drive safely (Motor Vehicles) Minimum Qualification Screen-Out: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. Specialized Experience Statement: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the WG-05 level in the Federal service or private sector, experience operating a motor vehicle, experience driving visitors in a motor vehicle and experience performing fleet maintenance.
