Electrician Supervisor
What you'd do
This position is location in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Health Care System, Engineering Service, Maintenance and Operations (M&O), Electrical Shop. The position is located in the Engineering Service and is responsible for the supervision and operation of the Electrical Shop.
Major duties
The incumbent is responsible for the management, supervision, planning, overseeing and training of the Electric Shop. Duties include but are not limited to: Determines labor and material costs for maintenance and repairs, minor improvements, maintenance contracts, and alterations. Furnishes advice and recommendations to services requesting work; discusses with them factors pertaining to the work such as urgency of need, particularly if the work concerns patient care. Conducts periodic inspections of work that has been completed in order to determine the immediate and long-range work needs of this facility, assists in preparing and justifying equipment needs, planned maintenance programs and works up projects to be accomplished. Prepares cost estimates for jobs and long-range programs, investigates work requests and suggestions, and makes necessary contacts to gather needed information. Maintains a program for preventive maintenance of expendable/non-expendable equipment, and personal property. Coordinates preventive maintenance with shop personnel to establish PM procedures, estimated labor and -material costs, frequency of PM's, and criticality levels. Evaluates electrical systems to assure sufficient capacity for smooth functioning of the facility and compliance with Joint Commission Environment of Care Standards, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) codes and standards, National Electric Code (NEC), and local operating procedures. Interprets complex blueprints and specifications and furnish technical details and information if not readily available or understood by subordinates. Troubleshoots complex mechanical and electronic equipment systems, at times without the aid of any technical documentation or maintenance manuals. Maintains accurate records of all repairs, special contracts, and services rendered. Serves as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) on maintenance contracts. Prepare requisitions and specifications for material and write service contract proposals for repairs or installations and forward submission to the facility contracting officer and Engineering Service leadership as warranted. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
