About the Position: This position is located at Army Madigan Medical Center's Blood Donor Center in Tacoma, Washington. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.
Major duties
Responsible for scheduling follow-up appointments for existing donors Responsible for assisting the donor recruiter with daily tasks to find, contact, and sign-up new donors. Perform follow-up care for donors displaying reactions. Ensure supplies inventory is maintained, report any inventory needs to the supply tech or supervisor Perform all required equipment maintenance and calibration on a variety of Blood Donor Center equipment. Prepare specimens for shipment to testing laboratories.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Medical Technician (Blood Banking): Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes labeling units for shipment and/or storage; explaining phlebotomy procedures to the donor; taking vital signs (i.e. temperature, pulse, and blood pressure); and recording information such as start and stop times of blood draws. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service. (GS-04) OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as Medical Lab Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) AND Certification Requirement: Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT); Medical Technologist (MT); or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS).
