Evidence Custodian
What you'd do
This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Imperial CA, San Diego Field Division. This position's primary purpose is to receive, document, store, and dispose of non-drug evidence, drug evidence, bulk drug evidence, and/or stockpiles for a Field Office.
Major duties
As a Evidence Custodian, your typical work assignments may include: Managing principles, techniques of analysis and evaluation, along with knowledge of standardized evidence practices and procedures to conduct studies of evidence handling and processes, to identify, analyze, and recommend solutions to problems in evidence management practices, processes, procedures. Analyzing evidence data systems to input evidence data; and skill to perform related searches and retrieve reports. Conducting inventory, entries in logbooks, files, paperwork, reports, and computer systems. Preparing reports and certifications related to evidence handling and custody for use in investigations, audits, inspections, and legal proceedings.

If you are qualifying based on education or if there are mandatory education requirements listed below, you MUST submit a copy of your college transcript with your application. Applicants applying for the GS-08 must meet one of the following requirements: A. Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-07 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing guidance and assistance to agents and staff on evidence submission procedures, packaging standards, and documentation requirements.; 2) Cataloging evidence activities and other administrative matters affecting operational efficiency; 3) Assisting with technical guidance regarding the evidence process to include evidence handling, required paperwork, proper storage, disposal and disposition procedures, timelines, room specifications, and security requirements; and 4) Responding to internal and external audits, inspections, and reviews by providing documentation, explanations, and corrective action support related to evidence accountability. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
