This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Major duties
Plans work schedules and sequence of operations to ensure the meeting of scheduled and priority assignments that the higher level supervisor establishes. Provides employees direct administrative and technical guidance on work requirements and procedures. Attends pre-design meetings and provide information for user and architect on fire code requirements both locally and nationally. Reviews blueprints to ensure design and materials meet fire codes. Keeps current with state-of-the-art fire protection equipment to ensure that the installation meets fire code requirements. Develops and implements fire prevention programs. Maintains contact with operating officials to promote cooperative relations and ready compliance with fire protection measures, when regulatory violations are noted. Assesses fire damage and investigates through screening fire debris for cause and origin of fires.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Overseeing work in controlling and extinguishing fires, emergency medical and HAZMAT situations 2) Distributing, coordinating, and monitoring work assignments of others 3) Managing, planning, and evaluating the departments fire prevention program. *NOTE: Because there is no position in the normal line of progression in the organization that is one grade lower than the position being filled, one year of specialized experience at the second lower grade level (GS-09) is creditable for in-service applicants. External applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-10). In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess the below listed certifications certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M. To qualify, the incumbent must possess the following: Fire Officer III, Fire Inspector III or Fire Plans Examiner, Fire Instructor II, HAZMAT Technician & Incident Commander, Airport Firefighter, Plans Examiner I and Fire & Life Safety Educator. Rather than submitting individual DoD certificates, if you have received a Student ID# for the DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program website (https://go.usa.gov/xdsTR) you may provide a copy of your most recent certification transcript. If you do not know your Student ID, you may contact the AFCEC Reach-back Center at [email protected] for assistance. Note: If you are a current federal employee and do not have one of the required certificates due to the DoD F&ES Certification Program delay - You may submit a provisional certificate, memorandum from the Fire Chief requesting the certificates, and/or another document showing completion of the course. PLEASE NOTE: If selected, you will not be placed into the position until the official certificate has been received from the DoD F&ES Certificate Program.
