About the Position: Serves as a specialist and national agency expert in mechanical equipment and systems found in hydroelectric powerhouses and large pumping plants.
Major duties
Serves as a specialist in the theory and design of mechanical equipment and systems used in hydroelectric powerhouses and large pumping plants. Directs and monitors a team of lower graded engineers and technicians in the preparation of studies, and plans and specifications for the procurement and installation of mechanical equipment and systems. Responsible for the development, negotiating and monitoring of HDC's scope of work, budget and schedule for the life of the project. Performs special technical studies and analysis of mechanical equipment and systems where past practices do not provide adequate guidance or new innovations require additional developmental work to determine final design features.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Designing and/or evaluating mechanical equipment and systems found in hydroelectric powerhouses, large pumping plants, or similar heavy industrial facilities (e.g., pumps, governors, cranes, cooling/hydraulic systems); 2) Serving as a technical advisor to resolve mechanical engineering problems; and 3) Monitoring scopes of work, engineering budgets, and schedules for projects while coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Selective Placement Factor: This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. Incumbent is required to possess and maintain a Professional Engineer (PE) License at time of appointment. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
