Major duties

Review and modifies, for technical accuracy, database objects for use in applications or for impromptu situations. Oversee the extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of sources such as XML data files, flat files, and relational data sources. Provide input for determining technical goals, leads projects that improve the general support environment, and works with other members of the database support team to resolve difficult problems. Monitor the systems and maintenance routines, providing input for planning and developing new policies and standards for use of the supported products. Serve as a technical expert in the design, implementation and maintenance of an enterprise data warehouse.

What you need to qualify

For all IT positions, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND, you qualify at the GS-13 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: designing enterprise databases to support applications, ensuring system scalability, security, performance, and reliability; planning and installing upgrades of database management system software to enhance database performance; developing data models for applications, metadata tables, views, and related database structures; implementing automated data integration and data transformation (ETL) solutions to meet business requirements; and, provide technical support and guidance to junior database administrators or specialists. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
