About the Position: Serves as a Public Safety Telecommunicator (Office Automation), dispatching Fire, Emergency Medical Service (EMS), and Law Enforcement (LE) responders for Fort McCoy Directorate of Emergency Services.

Major duties

Provide emergency services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment. Provide initial incident command support until responding emergency units arrive on scene. Identify nature of emergency, level of response required based on local protocols, and provide any additional information to the responding units. Monitor computerized fire alarm system and other alarm systems such as Joint Capabilities Integration Development System (IDIDS) alarm systems. Maintain an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to ensure prompt and accurate response. Operate Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) system, telephones, radios, and station alert systems. Provide emergency medical dispatching assistance to callers with medical emergencies.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. GS-06: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Answering emergency and/or non-emergency calls within a centralized public safety communications center using established procedures; 2) Operating emergency communications and computer-aided dispatch equipment to assist with dispatching public safety resources; and 3) Monitoring field unit response to relay incident updates to callers and/or responding public safety personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level in the Federal service (GS-05). GS-07: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 11) Answering emergency and non-emergency calls within a centralized public safety communications center; 2) determining the level of emergency to dispatch appropriate police, fire or emergency medical assets using computer-aided dispatch capabilities; and 3) assisting with performing crisis intervention with distraught callers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level in the Federal service (GS-06). Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
