This vacancy is for a GS-0963-5/6, Examination Administrator located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, OPERATING LOCATION-NMC REGIONAL EXAM CENTER-CHARLESTON SC in CHARLESTON, South Carolina.

Major duties

You will serve as a Examination Administrator and be responsible for all activities related to the examination process and ensuring those activities are executed in accordance with governing regulations and policies. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Administer written and practical examinations to merchant mariner applicants to determine their qualifications for credentials Maintain examination materials, publications, and reference documents required for merchant mariner credentialing to ensure all test administrations are accurate and current Record all applicant examination results and supporting documentation into the Merchant Mariner Licensing and Documentation (MMLD) system to produce an accurate and permanent record of credentialing activities Interact with the public to provide information on examination procedures, schedule exams, and resolve issues by communicating via in-person, telephone, and email Schedule examinations for merchant mariner applicants to manage testing appointments at the Regional Examination Center (REC) Reasonable Accommodation (RA) Requests: If you believe you have a disability (i.e., physical or mental), covered by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended that would interfere with completing the USA Hire Competency Based Assessments, you will be granted the opportunity to request a RA in your online application. What you need to qualify

Basic Requirements: This position DOES NOT have a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience or substitution of education for experience or combination (if applicable) in order to be found minimally qualified. Transcripts must be submitted with your application package. You MUST meet the following requirements: To qualify at the GS-5 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Experience proctoring and/or grading exams Assisting customers and/or resolving issues Experience working with electronic records or data-bases. OR Four years of education above high school. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post high school education and experience may be used to meet the total experience requirements. To qualify at the GS-6 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Experience proctoring and grading exams. Assisting customers and/or resolving issues. Experience working with electronic records or data-bases. NOTE: Education CAN be substituted for experience at this grade level. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
