ELECTRONIC INDUSTRIAL CONTROLS MECHANIC
What you'd do
You will serve as a ELECTRONIC INDUSTRIAL CONTROLS MECHANIC in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.
Major duties
You will evaluate the impact that electronically controlled industrial equipment repairs and adjustments will have on related integral devices. You will determine the effects that alterations will have on a total system to verify added equipment will function correctly. You will analyze diagnostic test readings and operating conditions of electronically controlled industrial equipment to isolate system malfunctions. You will use all types of test equipment to measure input and output voltages, amperage, cycles, check continuity and impose various electrical loads. You will be required to utilize computers, laptops, and testing equipment to troubleshoot problems prior to responding to field location where repairs will occur. You will be responsible for performing a combination of construction, maintenance, repair, manufacture, modification, utilities operation, or equipment operation involving diverse skills.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Must possess a Universal Certification received from an EPA approved certifying program. You must submit a copy of your certification to be considered. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks under general supervision including: 1) Performing installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of commercial and industrial air conditioning and refrigeration systems that provide a variety of functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, circulating and filtering air; 2) Performing in-place repairs to air conditioning and refrigeration components such as pumps, chillers, impellors, compressors to make adjustments and restore system/equipment operation; 3) Examining, diagnosing malfunctions and making repairs to systems that include analog and/or direct digital control (DDC) systems used in complex heating ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems; 4) Utilizing refrigerant tables; calculating airflow and pressure temperature characteristics for the different systems to locate problems; 5) Selecting electronic test equipment to isolate problems; and 6) Using hand and power tools to install electronic systems. *NOTE: THIS INFORMATION MUST BE SUPPORTED IN YOUR RESUME TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POSITION* PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Occasionally required to perform work by stooping, bending, and reaching while in cramped and uncomfortable positions and by walking, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolds to perform work at various heights. Normal vision is required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Some work is performed outside and may require exposure to prevailing weather conditions. Working conditions in this position vary with a portion performed in relatively pleasant surroundings. Subject to perform work, in areas with high noise levels where ear protection is required. Working in very hot and cold environments, poorly ventilated and lighted areas are occasionally required and in some instances work in these conditions is for the duration of the shift. The incumbent may be exposed to fumes, dust, dirt, grease, and oil, and is subject to the possibility of scrapes, cuts, bruises, contusions, burns, electric shock, and eye hazards.
