About the Position: Works under the general supervision of designated supervisor at a large multiple purpose hydroelectric power project. Is delegated responsibility to assure all aspects pertaining to mechanical maintenance of coordinating, investigating, planning, troubleshooting, availability of materials, and scheduling for work orders is accomplished to facilitate the timely work of the crews.

Major duties

Reviews drawings, and from knowledge of shop operations and trade practices, determines mechanical materials and equipment necessary to accomplish the work specified. Initiates procurement of mechanical materials by preparation of requisitions for material from the supply department or to be procured outside the project as the need occurs. Works with shop supervisors and other planners in coordinating work and schedules among the several work areas. Participates in job hazard analyses, requests and holds safe clearances, attends and participates in regularly scheduled safety meetings, and maintains and supports a safe working environment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Power Plant Mechanical Planner (TC-J) ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to create detailed job plans, safety plans, and purchase requests for mechanical equipment materials and/or services. Ability to perform tasks developing requirements for needed work as well as estimate cost of materials, trades required to accomplish the work, and estimated labor hours; ability to use a Computerized Maintenance Management Program. Ability to work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Efforts Work requires moderate physical effort; lifts and carries equipment and supplies frequently up to, and occasionally over, 45 pounds. Must have physical endurance to work for prolonged periods in cramped, poorly accessible sites when investigating or installing/modifying equipment. Work requires prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, pushing, and kneeling. A high degree of concentrated mental and visual attention is necessary to determine cause of trouble, plan and carry out corrective action, interpret complex drawings; and coordinate work efforts. Requires acute manual dexterity and ability to distinguish colors. Working Conditions Work is performed in the powerhouse, other project structures, and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, heights, oils, greases, confined areas, dust, dirt, water, heat, and cold, and inclement weather. May be exposed to odors, fumes, moving machinery and energized equipment. Must wear all appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.
